A collection of live television performances by the late great Marvin Gaye are making their way to DVD.

The sixties musical legend was famous for breaking the Motown trend of separating songwriting and singing. Albums like his 1971 release What's Going On and 1973's Let's Get It On have become pop music staples.

The DVD released April 4, The Real Thing In Performance: 1964-1981 features sixteen live television performances that aired throughout that period. The rarest of these according to Billboard are "performances of 'What's Going On' and 'What's Happening Brother' from the 1973 documentary 'Save the Children', which has never been released on home video."

Other tracks include live performances from shows like American Bandstand, Hollywood a Go-Go and Swingin' Time as well as the music video for 1979's "A Funky Space Reincarnation" and songs performed on "Zomerhappening" a TV special which only aired in Belgium in 1981.

Here are the performances you can expect to see:

"Hitch Hike" ("American Bandstand," 1964)
"Pride & Joy" ("Shivaree," 1965)
"Can I Get a Witness" ("Hollywood a Go-Go," 1965)
"Pretty Little Baby" ("Swingin' Time," 1965)
"Ain't That Peculiar" ("Swingin' Time," 1965)

"What's Going On" ("Save the Children," 1972)
"What's Happening Brother" ("Save the Children," 1972)
"Distant Lover" ("Dinah & Friends," 1979)
"Come Get to This" ("Zomerhappening," 1981)
