Sheryl Crow Battles Breast Cancer

Published: 2006-02-27
This weekend it was announced that nine time Grammy award winner Sheryl Crow is currently recovering from breast cancer surgery.

The 44 year-old singer shot to fame in 1993 after her debut album Tuesday Night Music Club became an instant hit, going eight times platinum in the United States and earning her three Grammy awards. Over the years she has maintained a steady string of hits like "If it makes you happy", "Soak up the Sun" and "Good is Good."

Recently the musician split with her former fianc»e, cycling champion Lance Armstrong who is a survivor of testicular cancer. According to the Associated Press Armstrong was devastated by her illness, "Once again I'm reminded of just how pervasive this illness is, as it has now touched someone I love deeply."

Though Crow's surgery was minimally invasive her official website says she will be receiving radiation treatment as a precaution and will therefore be forced to postpone her North American tour. The tour to promote her 2005 release Wildflower was scheduled for March/April of this year and included, three Canadian. Though more information on the postponed shows will become available in the future, full refunds are being made available and Crow plans to reschedule the dates as soon as possible.

Here are her postponed Canadian dates:

March 17, Montreal, QC - Bell Centre
March 18, London, ON - John Labatt Centre
March 19, Ottawa, ON - Scotiabank Place (formerly the Corel Centre)
Crow also stresses the importance of early detection and encourages women to be proactive about their health and continues, "I am inspired by the brave women who have faced this battle before me and grateful for the support of family and friends."
