RIP Anthony Burger

Published: 2006-02-24
Gospel pianist Anthony Burger passed away on February 22 after he collapsed during a live performance.

The 44 year old was performing on a Gaither Homecoming cruise when he suddenly collapsed. Family Friend Tom Rowland told the Associated Press, "They have not done an autopsy yet, but they suspect it was a heart attack."

Early in his career he played for groups like the Celestials as well as the Kingsmen.

"Most recently, he'd been a guest artist and pianist for Gaither Homecoming concerts headlined by gospel superstar Bill Gaither"

This year his album A Tribute to Bill and Gloria Gaither was nominated for the Gospel Music Association's Dove Award for an instrumental album.

His wife LuAnn and three children are in our prayers.

Was so fortunate and blessed to have attended 2 concerts here in the Rockford area over the last couple of years. I was so impressed with the talent God had given him and, more importantly, how he used it for his Lord's kingdom!

May God be with his family and the Bill Gaither Family, as well.

my husband and I are overwhelmed by the loss of anthony.
early in my husband's sales career for christian marketing he sold anthony's records and had the chance to meet him. We loved his music and were blessed by his gift. We were at the last gaither concert in toronto fall of 2005 and were delighted with anthony's performance. Our daughter walked down the aisle to a his recording of "jesus loves me". What a loss for us and a gain for glory!
we will miss you tremendously anthony!

I have loved Anthony's musical ability since first hearing him as a child and wanted to learn to play like him. I now am 29 years old and the pianist at our church there are not many Sundays that go by that I do not play one of his arrangements. One that has brought the most comfort to me is the medly that has 'In the Presence of Jehova." Our family has lost several loved ones due to tragic automible accidents and I have played and cried letting it minister to my soul. Now, Anthony is really playing in the presence of his Jehova.

I have heard Anthony play several times and each time his music blessed my soul. His desire to be the best that he could be is a real inspiration. Every time he sat to that piano it was as though he was playing in front of Almighty God. His ministry will be missed but his music will live on. My thoughts and prayers are with his family as they mourn their loss. God Bless you and keep you

I was shocked to hear the news just tonight as I was watching a Gaiters Homecoming show on satellite.
We had seen the Gaithers in Edmonton Alberta about two years ago. Anthony was playing for them than.
I am shocked and sadned finding out that Anthony has passed away. I trust that many have been blessed by the ministry that this man had in his music.
One thing that I can look forward to is that one day we will be reunited. The music will sound even better then. How wonderful will it sound in God's house

All this time Anthony passed away and I found out about it only July 22nd, when Bill Gaither was doing tributes to those who played a part in gospel. I was in shock and disbelief that Anthony was one of them. He was the first pianist I've ever stopped what I'm doing to listen and watched. I shed tears to learn of one so young and talented to have gone so soon. Though I'm late, My prayers, condolences, and sympathy to his wife and children, extended family and to all members of the Gaither Homecoming groups. This news was bitter sweet for me. Are there any videos available with performances of Anthony Burger? I would love to be blessed by his music, though he's with the Lord.

Thank you Maureen

Mr Burger was the greatest piano player I have ever seen in my life. I was overwhelmed by his ministry. The very first one of his I saw and heard, was the Halellujah Song that he played at the Opera House, Sydney Australia, and I was blown away just by looking at him and those little fingers, moving from bottom to top. Mate, you are so missed. I bet the Lord is so happy to have you on his side right now, and never let go.. I am so blessed..and every time i see you play, it really does something in my heart. I believe you've touched so many lives through your ministry.
My prayers for the Burger family.

In Christ,
Blessing (Sydney, Australia)
