Jammy Nominations Announced

My Morning Jacket, moe. and the Benevento Russo Duo have each been nominated for three Jammy's.

A play on words referencing the Grammy Awards, the Jammys are awards given to jam bands or bands with a more improvisational style of music. Though this is the sixth annual show producer Peter Shapiro told the Associated Press that this year's nominees have evolved from those of the past, "we're moving out of the Grateful Dead, Phish world and into a new era with new bands taking over the mantle for great live music; the torch is being passed."

Ryan Adams, Widespread Panic and the Allman Brothers all received two noms a piece.

Aside from the nominees it's usually the live performances that create a lot of buzz for the awards show. Acts like Blues Travaller, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones and Guster amongst others will be jamming at this year's show. Musician Dweezil Zappa will also pay tribute to his father Frank Zappa who will be receiving the lifetime achievement award.

Taking place at the theatre at Madison Square Garden, the awards show will be just the first event of the Green Apple Music and Arts Festival in New York City.
