MusiCares Pays Tribute to Sweet Baby James Taylor

At the Grammy awards later this week we will reward a wide range of the top musicians of today, but on February 6th musicians gathered to pay tribute to James Taylor for his music and much more.

Taylor was awarded MusiCares Person of the Year award, which according to the award's website aims "to recognize individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the field of music, as well as remarkable commitments to philanthropic and humanitarian causes."

Taylor's fellow musicians came out in droves to let him know how his music had influenced their own. Artists like Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Sheryl Crow, and Bonnie Raitt shared their stories at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and others covered some of Taylor's most influential tunes.

Sheryl Crow and Sting reminisced about the first time they saw Taylor in concert at the tender ages of 12 and 19, respectively. Paul Simon sang his version of "Sweet Baby James," and Keith Urban offered his rendition of "Country Road."

"It's strange to be at an event like this and still be alive, " Taylor told the Associated Press. "It's very moving, very terrifying and very wonderful to hear these songs done live." The show was topped off by the man himself stepping up the mic and belting out a few of his own hits, including "Copperline," "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)," and an encore of "Fire and Rain."
