Bono's Red Products

Published: 2006-01-27
Bono has teamed up with American Express and some big name fashion companies to try to rid the world of HIV and AIDS.

Several companies including Converse, Gap and Giorgio Armani will offer 'red' products where some of the revenue will go to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. According to Reuters products will include "T-shirts, wraparound sunglasses and training shoes made from African mudcloth". Exact numbers on how much will be donated to fund vary from company to company.

An American Express Red Card with the words "This card is designed to eliminate HIV in Africa", will also be launched where one percent of the money spent on the card will go the Fund.

The Red brand will be targeted first at Britain, the American Express Card should be available there next month. No word on when these items will be made available in North America.

According to Reuters the companies declined to say how much money the Red brand could potentially make saying, "it would depend on consumer response and the speed with which the brand could be expanded to other corporations and countries." They also didn't comment on what percentage of revenue would go to the Fund.

The Red products are meant as a way for consumers to contribute to helping fight AIDS just by their consumer habits.
