DMX Leaves the Big House and Def Jam Behind

Published: 2006-01-17
Rapper DMX has just moved out of the big house and has also just moved from his record label, Def Jam.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, has now signed a three-album deal with Sony Urban, and his new album, Here We Go Again, is scheduled for release this summer. Sony had to buy the album from Def Jam because DMX had recorded to album for them.

He explains that he wasn't happy at Def Jam and that he could no longer work with CEO and fellow rapper Jay-Z because, he told Billboard, "We're both too big."

DMX is the only rapper to have all 5 of his albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200 charts.
