Rich Cronin Beating Leukemia

Published: 2006-01-16
If you were big into boy bands back in the 90s when boy bands were big, you'll probably remember Rich Cronin. The blonde lead singer of the group LFO, he once dated Jennifer Love Hewitt and wrote a song about girls who wear Abercrombie and Fitch.

Well it's been a while since Cronin, Devin Lima, and Brad Fischetti parted ways, and little was had been heard from Cronin until March of 2004, when he was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia.

Since then, the pop singer-songwriter has gone through a round of chemotherapy. He is now in remission and is ready to head back to the studio. "I don't expect to be a huge music star [again]," he told MTV. "I would be happy if enough people appreciate what I do and I can be onstage doing what I love...I want to put out music that I'm proud of, that can also touch people to an extent."

Along with putting out a solo record, the former boy-bander is on a mission to encourage people to donate blood and bone marrow to help those who are ill, like him, to make it through their illness. "If people hadn't donated blood, that would be horrible because I needed it immediately," Cronin said to MTV. "And while donating bone marrow is a much bigger undertaking, it's worth the effort because there is no doubt that you will help save someone's life."

Aside from his solo album, he is also one half of the satirical rap duo Loose Cannons, with MC Doug Ray, and is starting his own record label Orange Freeze with his brother Mike.

Wow..I used to be a big LFO fan as well. As i was looking through some articles for a presentation I'm giving on Leukemia, I found this article. I have a cousin who is surviving Leukemia and I was putting this out for her, but now that I found out that someone who I was a great fan of is also in this situation is going to give me more strength for doing this presentation. I hope all is going well with Rich and I know that God will find his way to help him out. Love you Rich! Can't wait to hear your new material.

I loved the band LFO I used to go to concerts where they'd start the show just to see them. I love Rich's voice. I am so sorry to hear about all his troubles and he is in my prayers while he gets better. Goodluck Rich in whatever you do. I look forward to a solo album!
