Brit band the Babyshambles have been in the news as much for the ongoing drama between members and for lead singer Pete Doherty's battles with drugs as for their musical accomplishments.
With the new year only 11 days old, the band, which formed after Doherty left the Libertines (allegedly because of conflicts with other band members over his drug use), has lost another member: guitarist Patrick Walden. Original drummer Gemma Clarke left the band in January 2005 due to disagreements with management and was replaced by Adam Fecik.
The Babyshambles kicked off their UK tour January 9th with only three members and Doherty taking over guitar duties.
NME.com reports that "at one point during the set, Doherty unfolded a charge sheet and read out that he will be appearing in court" today. Police announced Monday that Doherty had been charged with possession of cocaine and heroin.
Later Doherty pretended to read from the charge sheet again, this time joking about the guitarist's departure. "Patrick Walden - misuse of the guitar act. I'm paying my penance for it now."
The band is continuing with its UK tour, but if Doherty is convicted, Babyshambles may be forced to become a duo.
