Foo Fighter Taylor Hawkins goes solo

Foo Fighters drummer is stepping out from behind his set to front his own band.

Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail riders is a side project that Hawkins has been working on during his downtime from the Foos. He told Rolling Stone, "I'm no good when I have nothing to do. I really wanted to make a record and have a project outside of the Foo Fighters, because we do take breaks. So I had to kind of create another little environment for myself to keep busy and excited."

So in 2004 Hawkins began recording some solo material with producer Drew Hester, material which spawned the 11 tracks that will appear on Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail riders' debut, self-titled disc which will be released March 7.

After a short Foos tour at the beginning of 2006 Hawkins take his material out on the road, playing drums as well as singing lead vocals.

The Foo Fighers released their most recent album In Your Honor in June.
