New Erasure Disc Pulls the Plug

Synth-pop-dance duo Erasure is releasing a best-of CD of sorts.

Like a greatest hits compilation, Vince Clarke and Andy Bell's new CD, Union Street, will feature a slew of the band's best tunes, like "Boy" and "Rock Me Gently."

But unlike typical greatest hits albums, which just recycle old tunes, Clarke and Bell have put a bit of a new spin on their highly electronic tunes by recording them acoustically. Clarke says on Erasure's website that they wanted "to show the songs in a different light, and show that they could work on whatever instrument, synthesizers or guitars. It makes such a different singing with acoustic instrumentsůthere's more space, it seems. When you're using electronics they soak up part of the voice. Whereas [with] strings, the voice seems to vibrate off of them."

The CD, which the band worked on in a basement studio in Brooklyn, will be released in the UK on April 3rd but has no international release date as of yet.

Here are the other tunes you can expect to see on the disc:

"Piano Song"
"Stay With Me"
"Tenderest Moments"
"Blues Away"
"How Many Times"
"Love Affair"
"Rock Me Gently"
