Thousands Gather to Experience Passion 06

Published: 2006-01-04
For the 18,000 people in Nashville this week for Passion 06, music is obviously not the only thing they've come to experience. But those who've come to worship together can certainly appreciate that the tunes they're worshipping to are a big part of the draw.

The four-day gathering for college students from all 50 US states and 20 different countries began on Monday and runs until tomorrow. The event is taking place in Nashville's Gaylord Entertainment Centre and featuring worship in many different ways. The gathering also includes some of the biggest names in contemporary Christian music.

The David Crowder Band came together at a Christian college in 1999 when its future members started the University Baptist Church. The six-piece electronic-rock worship group began writing tunes just for its own services but soon began releasing CDs of its songs, like 2005's A Collision.

Texan artist Chris Tomlin has been injecting pop melodies into worship since he began putting out records in 2001. His most recent release is 2004's Arriving.

Also attending will be British Christian songwriter Matt Redman, the leader of the Soul Survivor organization. With a career that began in 1993, Redman has had tunes covered by contemporary Christian musicians like Michael W. Smith and Rebecca St. James.

The Passion event has grown since last year, when 11,000 attended Passion 05.

Passion '06 was unbelievable! I just got home from attending it and I've never experienced a conference like it before. The music, the people, the energy, and coming to gether for a commonality in enjoying God are just a few of the things that made this event like none other before. I highly recommend everyone attend next year in Atlanta, GA.
