Parr Street Studios to close?

Former Genesis members and owners of Liverpool's Parr Street Studios are planning to close the recording studio down.

Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks, all former Genesis members own the studio and it is rumored that they will soon be selling the location and that a building of flats will be erected in its place. The trio "stand to make millions if they manage to sell the lucrative studios that they own," according to Gigwise.

The recording studio, which is the largest in the UK outside of London has been used by such acts as Pulp, New Order, the Charlatans and Coldplay.

Ken Nelson, a producer for Coldplay, said, "To lose the studios would be a great shame. I have encouraged bands that I have worked with to come to Liverpool to record at Parr Street, people like Coldplay, Feeder and Embrace, if the studios close then these great artists and others will have no reason to come to the city to record."

A petition has begun by fans who want the studio to stay open.
