Velvet Underground reunion show on DVD

Published: 2005-12-23
Fans of sixties avant-garde rockers Velvet Underground have something to look forward to in the new year.

The band parted ways in the seventies but reunited in 1993 for a few live shows including shows that would eventually become the live album Live MCMXCIII. On January 24 Rhino Records will release a live DVD of these performances recorded on June 15 ? 17 in Paris? Olympia.

The reunion features the original lineup of Sterling Morrison, Lou Reed, John Cale and Maureen Tucker.

The band was never commercially successful but their artsy sound, connected to their manager, pop artist Andy Warhol, was extremely influential.

The band?s definitive end came in 1995 (a year prior to their induction into the Rock n? Roll Hall of Fame) when guitarist Sterling Morrison died of cancer.
