Pirate Tracks Downloaded Illegally Can Amount To Hefty Fines

Parents who plan on buying digital music players for their children this Christmas must be warned! If their children download tracks off the internet illegally, they will be fined.

According to research from Times Online, half the music will be downloaded from sites that breach copyright laws and do not charge fees for each track. The British Phonographic Industry, which represents record labels, has research that says only 1 in 12 parents is aware how music downloads work, despite of half of all children claiming to have used such services.

A spokesperson from the British Phonographic Industry says that it is essential that parents acquire to make sure their children stay on the right side of the law when they go online to get music to play on them. "The basic rule of thumb is that if something looks too good to be true, it is. Don't use sites that offer a thousand tracks for free."
