The Beatles sue over royalties

The remaining members of the fab four and the families of those who've already passed are suing EMI for 30 million pounds ($62 million CDN) that they claim they are owed in back royalties.

Apple Corp (not to be confused with the company that makes iPods), the company owned by the Beatles, is suing because according to Reuters "Despite very clear provisions in our contract, EMI persist in ignoring their obligations and duty to account fairly and with transparency. Apple and The Beatles are, once again, left with no choice but to sue EMI."

This comes after negotiations between Apple Corp. and EMI broke down.

This isn't the first time the two companies have duked it out in the courtroom "Apple and EMI have already fought a decade-long courtroom battle over royalties and other issues, which was resolved out of court in 1989. Apple Records claimed that EMI secretly sold or gave away millions of records to retailers."
