New Order bring back the Joy

Published: 2005-12-16
Before New Order was New Order they were the remaining members of the bleak but evocative post punk group Joy Division.

Now Joy Division will be working on some new Joy Division material for the biopic of their fallen front man Ian Curtis. Curtis was found hanging in his home in 1980, officially ending the band after only three years. Recently New Order have been playing Joy Division songs during their concerts to honour Curtis' memory.

The film about Curtis' life was based on the book by his wife Debroah and directed by photographer and music video director Anton Corbjin who recently directed the video for Coldplay's "Talk". To add authenticity to the film he wanted the remaining Joy Division members to do the soundtrack. The band has also expressed interest in doing some new material for the soundtrack.

Though the music for the film seems to be taking shape the actors haven't been chosen quite yet, casting begins in spring of 2006.
