Google Gets Ripe with Music

Published: 2005-12-16
If you're looking for a few quick facts on your favourite bands, or where you can buy a CD by "that guy you heard on the radio" look no further than your favourite search engine.

Google announced December 14 they will be launching a new music feature on their search engine this week. Featured on the main page the music feature will provide some info about your favourite bands. When you put a band or musician name into the search engine results will display with an additional box on top of the search results with information such as a few facts about the band, some of their albums and a picture.

According to Reuters the company found that they were receiving a lot of music related hits that spurred them to begin providing this information. But not just trying to be nice to their users the search engine could stand to gain some coin if they begin to take advantage by advertising appropriately to the music related traffic.

But Google isn't the first to present this type of service, search engines like MSN, Yahoo and Ask Jeeves already provide a similar service.
