The Smiths reunite...kind of

Published: 2005-12-14
Two members of the influential Britpop band The Smiths are getting together again for a good cause.

Guitarist Johnny Marr and bassist Andy Rourke are getting together to perform for the first time since the Smiths' split in 1987. They will be playing at the Manchester vs. Cancer concert in, well, Manchester, England at the Evening News Arena on January 28.

Though only together for five years, The Smiths became a very significant band in the eighties. They were a huge influence on the Britpop movement and were the forerunners of bands like Oasis, Radiohead and The Libertines.

Aside from the piece of The Smiths, New Order, Doves, and Badly Drawn Boy are also playing.

No word on whether any of the other Smiths will be making an appearance.
