Green Day and 50 Cent Win Big at BMAs

Published: 2005-12-08
Green Day and 50 Cent won six accolades a piece at the Billboard Music Awards Tuesday night in Las Vegas. Mariah Carey scored five trophies, while Shakira and Carrie Underwood won three each. When Carey accepted her awards, though, instead of pulling out a piece of paper, she pulled out her cell phone for her list of thank yous. Green Day opened the show with a performance of "Holiday". Ciara performed a medley of her hit songs, as she was decked out in a black cat suit. R. Kelly sang his new single, "Slow Wind" in front of a fountain full of bikini dressed women.

There was some collaboration, as previously reported. Ashlee Simpson and Pretty Ricky performed together. Gwen Stefani performed "Luxurious" with help from rappers Pharell, Slim Thug, and Daddy Yankee.

The evening concluded with R. Kelly singing "Let Your Light Shine", a song dedicated to the victims of the Gulf Coast's hurricanes. He was joined by a group of dancers and a choir. The Billboard Music Awards are based on sales figures and radio data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan and Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems.
