Stevie Wonder to Open for the Superbowl

Published: 2005-12-06
With the Rolling Stones already penned in for the halftime show, the NFL is looking to start planning its pre-game show, starting with the addition of Stevie Wonder.

The announcement was not made by the NFL but by Stevie's record label, Motown, which expressed excitement about the appearance. Many Detroit fans, who felt snubbed when the NFL didn't chose a local band to play at the game to be held at the city's Ford Field, shared that enthusiasm. Detroit is Motown's original home, and though Stevie isn't from Detroit, he is from Michigan. Rapper Eminem and the legendary Aretha Franklin also reside in Detroit.

Stevie will perform three to four songs, and at least a portion of the performance will be televised prior to the February 5th game.

Stevie released the album A Time 2 Love earlier this year, his first record in ten years.
