Daddy Yankee Ready To Prove Himself

Published: 2005-12-01
In a music industry full of pop and hip hop, Puerto Rican reggaeton artist, Daddy Yankee, wants to spark a new revolution and is ready to do so on his own two feet.

Yankee, known for his hit single, "Gasolina" wants to help create a new movement. "I think the industry needs new sounds, and that sound is reggaeton right now," the rapper told MTV News. Well, what is exactly reggaeton music? It is dancehall music combined with Spanish lyricsˇand Yankee says he is ready to rely on his own merits instead of featuring guest rappers on his upcoming CD/DVD. "Doing things with my colleagues in the hip hop game is big, but I won't lose my fan base and what has got me here."

Yankee's debut, Barrio Fino went platinum just over a year ago and was the first reggaeton album to debut at number one on Billboard's Latin chart. His new CD/DVD will be hitting stores on December 13.
