The American Music Awards is somewhat of a precursor to the Grammy's in February. Mariah Carey and Green Day both had a big year in the music industry in 2005, as they both proved to be successful at Tuesday night's live telecast of the American Music Awards. Mariah Carey thanked the public for all the warmth and love while accepting her award while Green Day took home two AMAs at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
Plenty of performers were there including Pharell, Gwen Stefani, Hilary Duff, and Rob Thomas, The Rolling Stones, and the Eurythmics. Those who were not in attendance to accept their awards were Eminem, 50 Cent, Green Day, Kelly Clarkson, the Black Eyed Peas, and R. Kelly.
Will Smith won Favorite Male Artist beating out Rob Thomas and 50 Cent. "There's a lot of darkness in the world, and I'm committed with all the strength I got to bring the lightÖ" Smith said in regards to his style of music.
AMA winners are selected via survey of approximately 20,000 music consumers.
