So You Wanna Be A Rock 'n' Roll Star?

Published: 2005-11-16
Remember that episode of The Simpsons where Homer goes to rock & roll camp and gets tutored in the ways of rock star fashion by Lenny Kravitz and in the more dubious art of dodging groupies by Keith Richards? Well, now you too can live the rock and roll dream by attending a real-life rock camp entitled So You Wanna Be A Rock Star.

All you'll need is US $4,500 (including hotel costs) and the free time to be in New York City from January 26-29. With prices that steep, you might expect some top talent for your dollar. Unfortunately, however, there'll be no Mick n' Keef running this particular camp, no Elvis Costello manning the guitar shop. Musicians taking part include Billy Joel drummer and camp organizer Liberty DeVitto, ex-Joan Jett & The Blackhearts guitarist Ricky Byrd, former Deep Purple singer Joe Lynn Turner, ex-David Bowie bass player John Conte and former Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Ed King. Mick Fleetwood will, however, appear as special guest at some point during the festivities.

So what do you get for your dollar, you ask? Camp guests will audition for the musicians, who will then divide the attendees into bands for rehearsal before holding a Battle of the Bands competition at the end of the week. Attendees will also have individual sessions with other artists and record biz execs and will receive a DVD of the week's events at the end of camp.

If you have a lot of money to spend and a rock and roll fantasy you're itchin' to satisfy, head on over to for more info.
