Never ones to miss out on a marketing opportunity, KISS have announced that the band's legion of fans will be able to add another live DVD to their collection come December 13. Entitled KISS: Rock The Nation Live!, the two-disc set will feature relatively rare live renditions of songs from the band's extensive back catalogue as well as behind the scenes footage and a so-called "KISS Powervision/Select-A-Kiss" feature.
The live footage, recorded at shows in Washington, D.C. and Virginia Beach last year, showcases the band's most recent lineup, with original members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons joined by guitarist Tommy Thayer and returning drummer Eric Singer (playing the parts of Ace Frehley and Peter Criss respectively). It was a lineup, says Stanley, which proved more flexible when it came to airing out the dustier regions of the KISS vault.
"To be able to go out and play every and any KISS song was very freeing," Stanley told Billboard.com. "We reached a point where a lot of the tours after the reunion tour were virtually the same set list, and it wasn't because we didn't want to play other songs. Once Tommy and Eric came in, on any given night we could change the show, and really dig deep into our catalogue. A band that's been together this long not only should be able to play 'Rock and Roll All Nite' and 'Love Gun' but (also) 'Two Timer' or 'Got To Choose.'"
Stanley was also enthusiastic about the aforementioned "Select-A-Kiss" feature included on the DVD. "At any moment, a viewer can choose what they want to see, and use different camera angles," he explained. "So if you happen to have the good taste to see me, you can watch pretty much solely that. It's really your mix and your version of the show. I don't think we can forget that the band is really in peak form, and that's really shown on this DVD."
Despite the band's numerous farewell tours, Stanley also hinted that a return to the stage is in the works. "There's definitely talk," he admitted. "I had a hip replacement a year ago, and that unfortunately didn't go as well as it should have, and they did it again, and that also didn't go as well as it should have. So the recovery from that has been longer, although about six weeks ago we did a corporate show for 15,000 people in Columbus, Ohio. The band is as good and ready to go as ever. The difference is that I have to make sure that I can commit 100% of my energy for a tour, and not just a show."
The track list for KISS: Rock The Nation Live! is as follows:
"Lick It Up"
"Tears Are Falling"
"Got To Choose"
"I Love It Loud"
"Love Her All I Can"
"I Want You"
"Shout It Out Loud"
"I Was Made For Lovin' You"
"Detroit Rock City"
"God Gave Rock & Roll To You II"
"Rock & Roll All Nite"
