Loveable Mississauga popsters The Meligrove Band inked a worldwide deal with V2 Records back in September and have now confirmed that the first fruits of that union, the band's third full-length album, Planets Conspire, will be released across Canada in January 2006 with a US release also confirmed for the spring.
"We are very excited to be getting involved in the incredibly fertile Canadian music scene," said V2 GM Alison Mercer in a press release. "There's a real need for more labels to nurture the diverse genres that are coming out of this country and setting musical precedents internationally, and we aspire to be one of them. It is a special pleasure to have The Meligrove Band as our first domestic release. They have created an album of real beauty and they fit very comfortably alongside the most successful bands out there."
"It's pretty awesome to be on a label with so many of our favourite bands, like Grandaddy and Gang of Four", said the band in a statement. "Now we can make them hang out with us when they come to Toronto!"
The band has been out on the road plenty this year already, with two East Coast and one West Coast tour already in the bag but they've still got time for a few more dates around Ontario before the snow really starts to fly. As an extra incentive to go and catch the band's upbeat live show, advance copies of the upcoming Planets Conspire album will be available for sale at all upcoming shows - that way, you can get one before they're in the stores and make your friends all jealous and stuff. Unless your friends go with you and also buy a copy. Then they won't be so jealous.
