White Stripes Cover Tegan and Sara, Start Singin' For Coke

The White Stripes have announced a December 6 release date for their upcoming Walking With A Ghost "maxi-CD", a five-song EP that finds Jack and Meg covering our very own Tegan and Sara on the title track. The other four songs on the disc will all be live cuts, namely "Same Boy You've Always Known", "Screwdriver", "As Ugly As I Seem" and "The Denial Twist". For those of you who can't wait until December to get your hands on the goods, however, the EP will be available for download at the iTunes music store on November 14.

In other White family news, Jack White has confirmed that he has indeed written a song for an upcoming commercial for Coca-Cola. As we reported here at Soul Shine back in September, White was approached by the soft drink giant to compose a song in the universal vein of the popular 1970's jingle, "I'd Like To Buy The World A Coke."

"I've been offered the opportunity to write a song in a way which interests me as a songwriter", White told the NME. "To be asked to write something particular along one theme of love in a worldwide form that I'm not really used to appealed to me. I've written a song and I wrote it really quickly and it's an interesting commercial that's been made. I was inspired by the commercial."

No announcements have been made as to when the commercial will air, nor does the song have an announced title as of yet. The White Stripes had previously turned down an opportunity to appear in a commercial for The Gap and remain opposed to using previously recorded Stripes material in advertisements.
