iMesh Goes Legal

Published: 2005-11-04
Back in the days when illegal downloading was more prominent and Napster was all the rage a whole slew of P2P programs suddenly grew in popularity and one of these was iMesh.

Now iMesh is coming clean and joining the world of legal downloads. Now if you download the program at you can get the P2P program but like iTunes and Rhapsody you've got to fork over some dough to get the tracks. You can buy and rent tunes with the program either owning them for $0.99 a pop or having access to their entire catalogue for $6.95 a month.

Since iMesh's clean start they seems to be doing pretty well for themselves being the number four most downloaded program on But its success may have something to do with its access to a grey area of music. There are about 15 million or so soundtracks whose owners have let their copyrights go unclaimed so they can be legally downloaded for free.

Whether this will be enough to keep them afloat among the ever growing world of musical downloads, only time will tell.
