Open Door Festival of Music

Published: 2005-11-03
For its fifth year, the Open Door Festival of Music is...well...opening its doors.

The event that raises funds for the Red Door Family Shelter is "Busting with fabulous Canadian musicians". Open Door's aim is to let you know about some homegrown musicians that aren't as well known as Avril and Shania along with raising money to help this worthy cause.

Red Door Family Shelters help those who need refuge from domestic violence or others who may need shelter for any number of reasons. They also offer counseling and support to people to be able to move on from the shelter and find homes of their own.

In years past the festival has hosted musicians like Martina Sorbara, Ember Swift and Tegan and Sara. This year is no exception with talented artists gracing the festivals stage. Performers include D'bi Young a Jamaican musician who is also an actor, poet and playwright, Mike Evin a Montreal pop singer songwriter whose newest album I'll Bring the Stereo is just blossoming onto the scene. It also includes Jill Barber whose blend of folk pop can be heard on her 2004 release Oh Heart, Serena Ryder whose Live in Oz a six tune EP of live tunes from her current tour including a duet with Hawksley Workman and Kevin Fox a musician of many talents who's worked with everyone from Sum 41 to Sarah Harmer to Jully Black.

The Festival takes place next week, November 10 at the Mod Club in Toronto. Doors will open at 7:00pm and the music will start at 7:30. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. For a list of ticket retailers or any other info you want about the festival check out
