Ronald Isley Convicted Of Tax Evasion

Published: 2005-11-02
Soul legend Ronald Isley, singer for the The Isley Brothers, has been convicted on multiple counts of tax evasion in a Los Angeles court. The RnB star could face up to 26 years in prison as a result.

Isley was convicted on five counts of tax evasion and one count of willful failure to file a tax return. Prosecutors said that Isley avoided paying taxes between 1997 and 2002 by demanding all performance fees be paid in cash, a total estimated in the millions of dollars.

Prosecutors added that Isley lived luxuriously during that time, buying a yacht, two homes and two Bentley cars, assigning their ownership to his wife or assorted corporations, while failing to pay some US $300,000 in taxes in 2002 alone. Isley also cashed royalty cheques paid to his late brother O'Kelly Isley during that time, according to government lawyers.

Though Isley, who has not commented on the verdict, faces a maximum jail term of 26 years, court sources estimated that a five-to-ten year sentence is more likely.

All that money and he couldn't pay taxes? He's great and all but come on now. All he had to do was donate some money and he wouldn't have to pay as much tax. That's kind of greedy, if people making less money than him can pay taxes and have it affect them financially a lot worse, he could pay. He got too much money and has became to successful to do somethin stupid like that

I knew a different Ronald, when we met in the 80's. He was humble and gentle. He mostly likely fell into the World of Hunger, when he lost his most cherished brother "O'Kelly" Now he has to pay for the causes he made by not doing the right thing in the past. I will always love him in spite of his mistake. I'm sure he will find his right mind when he comes face-to-face with his karma. Somewhere along the way he lost his balance and confided in the wrong people. Hopefully he will regret his actions.

His spiritual friend for all eternity!

II too knew Ronald very well in the 80's and loved him. He was not this person at that time. I also knew Kelly before he died, and although losing him was very hard on Ron, as in any loss of a loved one, time does heal. I think that when he became "Mr. Bigg" was probably the start of the end. Trying to run with the Big Dogs can be very costly if you don't have as much money as they do. I am afraid it went to his head, and he became someone other then some of us knew him to be. What I don't understand is why his wife at the time, and others around him, allowed this to happen. I was married to Johnny "Guitar" Watson at the time of his death, and I handled his music business. I would not let him get into trouble with the IRS. But, that's another story!!! Ron's Karma has come around, unfortunately he is up in age, and it won't be easy. Good Luck Ron

What a shame. Ronald, you made a mistake. In 3 years when you're released, don't make the same mistakes again. You have a new baby to raise, and she/he needs daddy. I hope you live to see the baby grow up, and I hope Kandy sticks by you because she is so young, you never know.
