MC Hammer's Songs for Sale

Published: 2005-11-02
Nineties rapper MC Hammer's publishing rights and copyright assets are up for sale.

In 1996 the rapper, whose real name is Stanley Burrell, filed for bankruptcy, and now the company that acquired his songs at the time is putting percentages of the rights to them up for sale.

Hammer rose to fame in 1990 with his album Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em, which spawned the hit "You Can't Touch This." In 1991 Hammer dropped the MC from his name and released another successful album, Too Legit to Quit.

Since then the rapper has released seven other albums, including a greatest hits compilation. His most recent record was 2003's Full Blast. In 1997 the rapper became a priest.

The songwriters that Hammer worked with will be contacted about the assets. For anyone interested in the songs, bidding will begin in February.

Anyone interested in relieving me of my copy of Too Legit to Quit is welcome to it÷
