Coldplay, Gorillaz Top List Of Nominees For 2005 MTV Europe Awards

Published: 2005-11-01
Nominations for this year's MTV Europe Awards have been announced, with Coldplay and Gorillaz leading the list of nominees. Both acts are up for five awards at the ceremony, going head to head in three categories - Best Song, Best Group and Best UK and Ireland Act. Gorillaz are also nominated in the Best Pop and Best Video categories, while Chris Martin and co. got the nod for Best Rock and Best Album.

In a statement, Coldplay said that they are "delighted to be nominated for five categories (at) this year's MTV Europe Music Awards. Our European fans have given us incredible support over the years. We're looking forward to an amazing night in Lisbon on November 3."

The ceremony will be held this year at the Atlantic Pavilion in the Portuguese capital, with performers including the aforementioned bands as well as Foo Fighters, Robbie Williams, Green Day and Black Eyed Peas.

Also up for multiple awards are chart-toppers Gwen Stefani, 50 Cent, U2, Snoop Dogg and UK sensation James Blunt. The event will be hosted by Sacha Baron Cohen, perhaps best known by his humourous Ali G alter ego. Cohen will host in character, though not as the wannabe gangsta but as Kazakhstan TV journalist Borat Sagdiyev. For a full list of nominees, check out the MTV Europe website at
