Anna and Kate McGarrigle Bring Sisterhood to Toronto

Published: 2004-02-17
The names of Kate and Anna McGarrigle may not be household words but they are part of a talented, and some famous membered, family. Kate is the mother of Rufus Wainwright who has gone far beyond his famous father's – Loudon Wainwright III – "Dead Skink in the Middle of the Road" and little ditties on M*A*S*H.

Kate and sister Anna have just released a new album. "La Vache qui pleure" is the sister's second all French album and their eleventh overall excluding compilations. The sisters own their own albums and license them out themselves. The new CD is being released through La Tribu Records. The sisters do not tour and their appearances are few; yet they have been successful over the years. Kate and Anna will be performing at Hugh's Room in Toronto Tuesday and Wednesday to sold out crowds.

Kate says that they would like to return to singing the songs that got them interested in music in the first place; the old folk tunes of the 60s and 70s. The sisters do what they want and follow their own instincts.
