Mars Volta Releases Live 'Scab Dates'

Published: 2005-10-21
The massive rock band Mars Volta is set to release a live album on November 8th.

The group, which just finished off a tour with System of a Down, is not your typical band. Taking influences from punk rock and Latin sounds, Mars Volta has eight members doing everything from the typical vocals and guitar to flute, bass clarinet and tenor sax. There are also thirteen other members of the groupóthough we're not too sure what they do. On the official website, these additional names are listed as members of "The Mars Volta Group" aside form the eight musicians.

So when it comes time for this group to release a live CD, it also isn't your average affair. The seventy-two minute CD Scab Dates contains only six songs. And of those six songs, the final, four-part tune "Cicatriz" is about forty minutes long. The tunes were recorded on various dates from 2003 to 2005.

Here's what the track listing looks like:

"Abrasions Mount the Timpani"
"Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt"
a) "Gust of Mutts"
b) "And Ghousted Pouts"
"Caviglia"
"Concertina"
"Haruspex"
"Cicatriz"
a) "Pt. I"
b) "Pt. II"
c) "Pt. III"
d) "Pt. IV"
