Fatboy Slim and David Byrne pen musical

Fatboy Slim and Talking Heads singer David Byrne are getting together to write a musical based on the life of former Filipino first lady Imelda Marcos.

The beauty queen turned first lady was known for her love of music and nightclubs partying all over the world including New York's legendary Studio 54.

But her husband Ferdinand Marcos' reign was very controversial with hundreds of millions of dollars 'disappearing' from the Filipino government during his presidency and the couple being accused of keeping it for themselves.

The controversy heated up even more as a cause of Imelda's infamous shoe collection that was discovered after her husband was overthrown in 1986. Said to house about 3000 pairs of shoes it represented the frivolous excess of the first lady to the Filipino masses living in poverty.

The musical based on her life will concentrate more on her luxurious nightlife than political involvement and will be showcased at the Australian Adelaide Festival in March 2006.

Titled Here Lies Love the musical is billed as "a timeless story with more contemporary resonances than are comfortable".
