Rushís Alex Lifeson Countersued By Florida Police

Alex Lifeson, guitarist for CanRock legends Rush, continues to find himself embroiled in consequences arising from his arrest at a 2003-04 New Year's Eve party at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Naples, FL.

Lifeson, born Alex Zivojinovich, is being countersued by two deputies who claim the guitarist attacked them as they were trying to escort Lifeson's son, Justin Zivojinovich, from the party at the hotel's request. The countersuit is in response to a lawsuit filed by Lifeson and son in US Federal Court this June, which seeks unspecified damages on accusations of unlawful arrest, false imprisonment and battery.

According to reports, Justin Zivojinovich became unruly at the New Year's event, prompting hotel officials to call police in order to remove him from the premises. Lifeson intervened upon seeing his son arrested, allegedly shoving Collier County deputy Amy Stanford down a flight of stairs before spitting blood in the face of fellow deputy Christopher Knott.

Lifeson and Zivojinovich, however, claim they were injured and unnecessarily subdued with a stun gun during the arrest, and that the police officers were the aggressive parties in the altercation.

Both Lifeson and Zivojinovich pleaded no contest to misdemeanor and felony charges earlier this year and were each given a year's probation.
