Published: 2005-10-03
The Western Canadian Music Awards is such a big event that it's being held over a period of four days. From October 20th to 23rd musicians and music industry types from all over western Canada will be gathering in Vancouver to celebrate music from the region and the international scene.

Events are being held at the Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle Downtown and will include much more than just your average awards show. There will be a conference of music industry members over the entire weekend that the website says emphasizes "the silent Mecca of talent located in your own back yard!" There will also be a number of panels and workshops focusing on the music industry in the West.

The weekend will end off with not one but two big awards shows on Saturday and Sunday. Awards will be given to different members of the music industry in western Canada on Saturday, October 22nd in categories like Radio, TV, or Print Media Person of the Year, Live Music Venue of the Year, and Independent Record Label/Distributor of the Year.

But of course the big event will be the artistic awards giving props to the musicians in the West on the final evening of the event. The talented folks nominated for awards this year include international superstars like Bryan Adams, Diana Krall, and Sarah McLachlan. They also include former busker Jeremy Fisher, country folk singer Ian Tyson, and Canadian Idol version 2.0 Kalan Porter.

If you want to attend the conferences and both awards shows, tickets are $175 for those in the music industry and $200 for the rest. For more info, check out www.westerncanadianmusicawards.ca.
