John Cale To Release New Album, Tour North America

Published: 2005-09-29
Living legend alert: John Cale, founding member of the Velvet Underground, producer of the first Stooges album and all-around artiste extraordinaire, is set to visit Canada for a run of shows on the heels of his new album, blackAcetate. Currently on tour in Europe, Cale's album will be released worldwide on October 3 with a North American tour to begin in Los Angeles on October 27.

The new album sounds nothing if not intriguing; according to Cale's website, blackAcetate "is a much harder contemporary rock album than its predecessor (2003's Hobosapiens)" and one which draws "inspiration from Dre and Pharrell, Erykah Badu, Gorillaz and Doves then back to Curtis Mayfield and beyond." Hip-hop? Cartoon rock? Evidently, this Welsh gent is still one hip cat.

The first single from the album, "Turn The Lights On" is available at Cale's official website at as a digital download. His North American tour will hit Canada for six shows in November, including a four-night stand in Toronto.

Here are the particulars:

November 13, 14, 15 & 16, Toronto, ON - Kool Haus
November 17, Waterloo, ON - Starlight
November 20, Montreal, QC - Spectrum de Montreal
