Tribute Single To John Peel Features Roger Daltrey, Robert Plant

An upcoming single, recorded as a tribute to the late, legendary British DJ John Peel, will feature an eclectic mix of artists both old and new in a fitting memorial to the man's famously catholic musical tastes.

The single, a version of the Buzzcocks' classic "Ever Fallen In Love", will feature turns by Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Roger Daltrey, Robert Plant, Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour and Jeff Beck, as well as appearances by Buzzcocks singer/guitarist (and "Ever Fallen In Love" composer) Pete Shelley and New Order bassist Peter Hook.

Newer bands also slated to appear on the artist-heavy single include The Futureheads and, somewhat unexpectedly, New Zealand garage cavemen The Datsuns.

The release date for the single has been set for November 21, to coincide with Peel's induction into the UK Music Hall Of Fame, with all proceeds going to Amnesty International. The lineup for the single was handpicked by Peel's son, Tom Ravenscroft and has the approval of the aforementioned Shelley.

"It is very eclectic," Shelley told the Guardian newspaper. "That was the magic of John, though. He was somebody who embraced all forms of music over the last 40 years."
