Newsboys Aid Katrina Relief Workers

Published: 2005-09-27
Musicians all over are trying to do what they can to help the victims of hurricane Katrina. Some are doing benefit concerts or CDs, but others, like veteran pop group Newsboys, prefer to get their hands dirty for a good cause.

Members of the band along with people from their crew and management flew into Gulfport, Mississippi, on Tuesday, September 17th to help. They put up twenty tents to house about one hundred relief workers who will be helping victims of the hurricane.

The tents are approximately 6 x 6 metres in size and were used as a portable music venue on one of the band's past tours. People from PRC Compassion, a relief organization in the area, will be managing the tent community.

Those who helped out had a sombre experience. "To see the devastation first hand was a real eye-opener for us," said keyboardist Jeff Frankenstein, "and we felt called to help out in whatever way possible."
