Taking out the Garbage

Published: 2005-09-23
Rock group Garbage is going on an indefinite hiatus. That seems to be the word of the moment for bands that want to break up but not close the door on their old projects. Garbage will be starting its hiatus as soon as it wraps up its Australian tour October 1st.

Even before the announcement of the break, the band had been showing signs of slowing down. First they publicly admitted to nearly breaking up during the making of their most recent album, Bleed Like Me. Also, the band had planned on touring Europe after their Australian gigs were up, but suddenly cancelled those plans.

The band's first CD, Garbage, was released ten years ago and it spawned their biggest hit to date "Stupid Girl."

Lead singer Shirley Manson told MTV the break up may not be forever. "I don't know what I'm going to do, to be honest. The hiatus may last two weeks, it may last two years. We really don't know. We've come to a point where we feel really good about where we're at. We've had an amazing run with this record, and we feel that it's a good time to take some time apart."
