Franti urges fans to broaden horizons

In conjunction with travel publisher Lonely Planet, Michael Franti, the "barefoot clarion for social justice," is urging his American fans to travel abroad.

Today, Michael Franti will perform the first of three shows on the Lonely Planet's Passport to the World Tour. The tour gives fans a chance to meet and interact with Lonely Planet authors, and will also have booths set up where attendees can receive passport applications/have their passport photos taken.

It is estimated that only 23 per cent of Americans have a passport, which organizers fear isolates citizens from the global community. The tour has been arranged to encourage Americans to broaden their horizons through international travel.

Franti has been quoted as saying, "there is so much misunderstanding between America and other this time the best way to solve this problem is for Americans to travel abroad and interact."

The Passport to the World Tour will also act as a launch party for the most recent Lonely Planet book, 52 Reasons To Have a Passport. It also falls in line with the first annual national passport month.
