Gorillaz Step into Reality

Published: 2005-09-20
Cartoon super group the Gorillaz have announced they will perform live, in-person, for the first time this November.

For any other band this news would be less than extraordinary, but for the Gorillaz, the five shows in Manchester will be truly historic.

Until this point the band has remained elusive, performing only as silhouettes behind a screen, or as their cartoon alter-egos on five flat television screens. For British fans, the chance to see the band live in action could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The shows are set to take place at the Manchester Opera House from November 1st to 5th. They will mark the official launching of new Manchester International Festival, which is scheduled to make waves in July 2007.

Gorilla Damon Albarn (also the lead singer of Blur) has said he's excited to be a part of the festival, and glad to be promoting the music scene in Manchester.

"Manchester is the centre of Britain. We're only ever going to do this once, so it makes sense to do it somewhere in the middle of the country."

The band is also planning a worldwide tour for 2007, during which they hope to appear on stage as 3D holograms.
