John Mayer Trio Tours, Records Live Album

Published: 2005-09-20
If you're wondering what happened to that lanky kid who sang "Your Body Is a Wonderland," then let me let you know: he's become a trio and a blues man.

The John Mayer Trio, consisting of Steve Jordan on drums, Pino Palladino on bass, and of course John Mayer on guitar, is a throwback to old power trio blues-rock bands like Cream. They're playing songs that don't sound much like the adult contemporary pop Mayer fans are used to hearing on past hits like the Grammy-winning tune "Daughters."

The band releases its first CD on November 22nd, but they will not be heading into the studio for this one. The trio is currently touring North America and the album will be recorded live at the Chicago House of Blues on September 22nd and 23rd.

The group's first single, "Who Did You Think I Was," is already available for download on iTunes with B-side "Come When I Call." A video for the single is due out later this month and is directed by Gus Van Sant.

But if you just can't wait to see John Mayer you can catch him and the rest of the trio at their one Canadian date:
