Calgary-native, Melissa O'Neil won over an excited audience on the Canadian Idol finale last night. Upon winning the title, she embraced runner-up Rex Goudie of Newfoundland and remained in shock when Ben Mulroney asked her about the experience of winning the show.
Reports say O'Neil will not be taking a year off school to pursue her recording career, she will be taking school on the road with her via correspondence or a tutor. Despite hitting the books, she will release the single, "Alive" and be granted a recording contract to progress her singing career.
Canadian Idol has officially impressed (or shall we say obsessed) the viewing audience to such a point that after winning the show, Prime Minister Paul Martin gave O'Neil a call to congratulate her. You never know, maybe they'll sing a duet about it.
