Suge Knightís Assets Frozen; Talk Show Joke Writers Ecstatic

Published: 2005-09-14
Controversial rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight has been having something of a rough year. Six months ago, Knight was ordered to pay US$107 million in damages to former associate Lydia Harris. Harris had sued Knight for unpaid royalties and profits, claiming that she had been a founding partner in Knight's lucrative Death Row Records label and, as such, was entitled to a 50 per cent cut.

Knight and his lawyers refused to cooperate in the case and, not surprisingly, lost. Now Knight finds himself caught up in a divorce battle between Ms. Harris and her estranged husband, convicted drug dealer Michael Harris, who is suing her for half of the settlement from his comfortable home in San Quentin prison. California judge Adrienne M. Grover named Knight an "interested party" in the case and promptly froze all his financial assets to stop the Death Row boss from "disposing or transferring his assets away" while the case is ongoing.

Mr. Harris claims to have put up US$1.5 million to help provide Knight with start-up funds for Death Row in 1989, a claim that Knight has denied. Harris is currently serving a 28-year sentence on drug-related charges.

All this, of course, comes just two weeks after Knight was shot while attending a music biz party in Miami, shattering a bone in his leg in the process. Knight was recently released from hospital. Hope he paid those private hospital fees in advance.
