Ringoís House Torn Down

Published: 2005-09-12
If you want to check out the house where legendary Beatles drummer Ringo Starr was born, you may not have too much longer to do so.

The house is one of 460 houses being torn down as part of a regeneration project in the area of Liverpool where the house stands. It was spared two months ago in order to find out if it was worth saving. Since then the house has been deemed to have no historical significance, because Starr only lived there for three months.

The childhood homes of fellow Beatles John Lennon and Paul McCartney were saved from similar fates, but they spent a good majority of their childhoods in those homes.

Ringo himself objects to the tearing down of the homes. "Why are they knocking them down?" he asked the BBC. "If it is economically viable, they should do them up."

Starr has been touted as one of the greatest drummers in rock 'n' roll since he joined the Beatles in 1962.
