Arcade Fire Second Album Not Yet Started

Published: 2005-09-09
Montreal's Arcade Fire will begin recording the follow-up to their hugely popular Funeral album sometime very soon, say sources at NME.com.

"We want to start making a new record," bassist Tim Kingsbury told the website. "We've got a lot of writing to do, too. We've been touring these songs for a couple of years, so we're ready to move on. Hopefully it will be out within a year but it's hard to say."

To this tantalizing prospect, organ player Richard Parry added, "I have no idea how it will sound. I'm sure it will be different, but still have our sound. It's the same group of people. It's gonna be the Arcade Fire. And we have our own studio space now so there's no time constraints. We spend as much time as we want and then see what happens."

No official word has been posted on the band's website nor the website of their label, Merge Records, so maybe it's all an elaborate ruse a la Chinese Democracy though, come to think of it, probably not.

The band did announce today, however, that they have finally been able to overcome "venue issues" and add a Vancouver show to their upcoming Canadian tour. The show will take place at the PNE Forum on October 7, with tourmates Wolf Parade and Bell Orchestre also on the bill. Tickets are $31.50.
