Les Paul on the Charts at 90

Published: 2005-09-09
Les Paul is happy to be number 152 this week on the Billboard top 200 charts, probably because he's decades older than most of the folks on there. At 90 years old, Les hasn't released a record in 50 years and is likely the oldest guy to ever chart on Billboard.

Though his last album, Les and Mary, was released in 1955, his name probably sounds familiar to you. That may be because it's written on your electric guitar. An electric guitar pioneer, Les designed and built one of the first solid-body electric guitars in 1941. Today the Gibson Les Paul is used by rockers all over the world, from Eric Clapton to Adam Sandler.

His newest album, Les Paul & Friends: American Made World Played, was released to help celebrate his 90th birthday this past June.
