Ex-Libertine Carl Barat Forms Band

Published: 2005-09-08
If you miss the punk-rock revivalist sounds of the Libertines, you'll be glad to know that the majority of the band is getting back together to form a new group. Lead singer Carl Barat, drummer Gary Powell, and one of the Libertines' former stand in guitarists, Anthony Rossomando, will make up the new outfit.

The Libertines released only two albums: 2002's Up the Bracket and 2004's The Libertines. Though critics and fans loved the British band, it was in for an early demise due to guitarist Pete Doherty's addiction to drugs. Because of his often-confrontational relationship with Barat and his inability to kick the drug habit, Doherty was kicked out of the Libertines.

Since then Barat and Doherty seem to have patched things up being seen singing together in a bar in North London. Despite this rapprochement, there is no word on whether Doherty will be joining Barat's new band.
